Call for Expressions of Interest in the ICB5 Programme
IPMA is pleased to invite you to participate in an exciting journey, namely, the development of the C57 Project – ICB5 (New version) Standard.
CoD approved the ICB5 Programme in March 2022, the suggested timeline is June 2022 – September 2023. The ICB5 Programme comprises up to 7 Projects (or Work Packages). Over the next few months, we will be announcing several further EOI’s for MAs to nominate subject matter experts (SME) to participate.
We are now calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the first two (2) of the ICB5 Programme Work Packages:
- Work Package 1. ICB 4 UPDATE + REVIEW
- Work package 2. DEVELOP CE (Competence Element ) GUIDE
Work Package 1. ICB 4 UPDATE + REVIEW
Work Package Team Structure
- Each person should have some subject matter expertise & experience in using the ICB 4
- Ideally, Team Members will have some knowledge of ISO 17024.
- Ideally familiar with scheme committee work.
Work Package Objectives A team of 5 will be required to:
- Review and update the ICB: to determine what amendments to CE/KCIs are needed to update the ICB.
- Review and include the ideas that have been provided by the MAs for the ‘new CEs’ (such as AI, Sustainability management, Diversity management, Situational Sensitivity, Well – being, Agility etc.).
- Review the KCIs in the light of modern practices
- Review the proposed ideas and decide on the way the inclusion of them & built into the existing CEs. Consider the inputs from an ‘editorial team’, improve the text & remove the inconsistencies and resolve the issues in the text of ICB4.
- Ensure reference to:
- Data protection – GDPR, cloud computing, cloud-based tools, communication methods, remote working in all its facets, latest ideas on leadership vs management are considered and added or included as appropriate.
- Submit to overall editing committed working in Work Package 2 – see below)
c) Work Package Time Frame
- Approx. 3 online meetings: 1st to scope, 2nd to do work, 3rd to finalize. The exact scope is to be determined.
- Commence work mid to late July 2022. The exact time frames are to be determined.
d) Work Package Meetings & Work Shops
- Ideally Team meetings etc…will be undertaken using a suitable virtual collaborative platform.
- Travel & related expenses to attend face-to-face meetings or workshops will be required to be met by the MA.
Work Package 2. DEVELOP CE (COMPETENCE ELEMENT) GUIDE
Work Package Requirements
a) Sub Team One
Development of a revised CE Guide 28 CEs of ICB 4 to be rewritten as a Guide
- Writing teams will be tasked with rewriting each of the 28 CE’s in a new style & format which will be predefined. We are calling this new format ‘Show the reader’ style. That is, to assist the reader in having a better understanding of the requirements of each CE, we aim to change the current ‘Tell the reader’ style to ‘Show the reader’ style according to the template designed.
Each CE will have a Guide writing team of 2 people. With each team to do 2 or 3 CE’s
- Each person should have some subject matter expertise & demonstrated experience on the CE they volunteer to write
- Each volunteer will have 30-minute training on the difference between writing to ‘tell’ and writing to ‘show’ according to the template designed.
- We strongly encourage at least one nomination to be from Young Crew members.
- Each volunteer will be issued a digital badge worth 20 CPUs, awarded on completion.
Sub Team One Objectives
- 28 CEs to be rewritten as a Guide
- Guide should be readable by a 22 – 28-year-old with PM opportunities and desires
- To be digital-first, paper second
- To be issued in English and a machine-translated version for each CB language
- To be a SSoT (Single Source of Truth) in a secure IPMA Team channel for each MA/CB
- To contain live links to bibliography, case studies, blogs etc, these can be IPMA or local MA/CB to ensure local flavour!
- To cross-reference within itself interacting and overlapping CEs and KCI
Sub Team One Timeframe
- It is estimated that each volunteer will need to dedicate up to 180 minutes to this process over several weeks. Exact timeframes to be determined.
- Commence work mid to late September 2022. Exact timeframes to be determined.
Sub Team One Meetings & Workshops
- Ideally Team meetings etc…will be undertaken using a suitable virtual collaborative platform.
- Travel & related expenses to attend face-to-face meetings or workshops will be required to be met by the MA.
Sub Team Two: Editing Team
- An overall editing Team of 4+ Chair will take each CE and run it through 3 editing processes.
- That is CE review, KCI review, line-by-line review.
- The editing team should have editing knowledge and experience in context and content editing of chapters and sections.
- Members of the editing team must have native-level English reading and writing skills.
- The Line review will require grammar and English spelling skills, and abilities.
- Commence work mid to late September 2022. Exact timeframes to be determined.
- Sub Team One Meetings & Workshops.

I am interested, but would like to have some feedback on the expected time involvement to make sure I can commit.
Adiitionally, I would like to point out a likely typo in the “Work Package Team Structure” section – there is mention of ISO 17042, shouldn’t this be 17024?
